8-Day Rwanda Wildlife and Birding Adventure

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, a representative from Likana Safari Uganda will greet you and facilitate your transfer to your accommodation in Kigali. You’ll have the remainder of the day to relax after your journey, or you can explore some of Kigali’s attractions, such as the Genocide Memorial Center or local markets. Overnight stay in Kigali.

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Akagera National Park, located in the eastern part of Rwanda. En route, enjoy the beautiful landscapes and rural scenery. Upon arrival, check-in at your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, set out for a game drive in the park, where you’ll have the opportunity to spot various wildlife species including elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, and numerous bird species. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge in Akagera.

Today is dedicated to exploring the diverse habitats of Akagera National Park. After breakfast, embark on a full-day game drive, traversing the savannah plains, woodlands, lakes, and marshlands of the park. Keep your binoculars ready as you search for wildlife, including predators like lions and leopards, as well as an abundance of birdlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the wilderness before continuing your wildlife expedition. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation.

Start your day with an early morning birdwatching session in Akagera National Park. Join experienced guides as you explore the park’s diverse habitats, including lakeshores, wetlands, and woodlands, which are home to a rich variety of bird species. Akagera is known for its impressive birdlife, with over 500 species recorded, including waterbirds, raptors, and migratory birds. After birdwatching, return to the lodge for breakfast and spend the rest of the morning at leisure. In the afternoon, you can opt for another game drive or relax at the lodge. After breakfast, bid farewell to Akagera National Park and embark on a scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southwestern Rwanda. Enjoy the picturesque landscapes along the way as you journey to one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. Upon arrival, check-in at your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, you can explore the nearby surroundings or relax at the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay near Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Today, immerse yourself in the birdwatching paradise of Nyungwe Forest National Park. After breakfast, embark on a birding excursion with expert guides, exploring the forest trails in search of Nyungwe’s numerous bird species. Nyungwe is home to over 300 bird species, including Albertine Rift endemics and colorful forest birds. Enjoy a packed lunch in the forest before continuing your birding adventure. In the afternoon, experience the thrill of walking above the forest canopy on the Nyungwe Canopy Walk, offering breathtaking views and excellent birdwatching opportunities. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Early in the morning, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before embarking on a chimpanzee tracking expedition in Nyungwe Forest. Accompanied by experienced guides, trek through the dense rainforest in search of chimpanzee troops. Along the way, you may also encounter other primates such as colobus monkeys and mangabeys. Spend an hour observing and photographing the chimpanzees in their natural habitat before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you can relax at the lodge or explore the surrounding area. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on the journey back to Kigali. Depending on your departure time, you may have the opportunity to visit some of Kigali’s attractions or do some last-minute souvenir shopping. You’ll be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or onward travel arrangements, marking the end of your unforgettable Rwanda wildlife and birding adventure.
