About Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations, located in the northwestern part of Rwanda along the borders of Uganda and Democratic Republic of the Congo. The park is part of the greater Virunga Conservation Area and is characterized by a chain of dramatic volcanic mountains, including Mount Karisimbi, Mount Bisoke, and Mount Sabyinyo. Renowned as a sanctuary for the endangered mountain gorillas, Volcanoes National Park offers one of the most remarkable wildlife experiences in the world, gorilla trekking. Visitors hike through lush bamboo forests and mist-covered slopes to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat. The park is also home to golden monkeys, forest elephants, and a variety of bird species, making it a rich destination for biodiversity. Beyond wildlife, the park holds significant conservation history as the research base of Dian Fossey, whose work played a vital role in protecting mountain gorillas. Visitors can explore her legacy through guided hikes to the Dian Fossey Tomb. With its breathtaking scenery, rich wildlife, and cultural significance, Volcanoes National Park offers an unforgettable and immersive safari experience.
